If you’re looking for Brisbane kids shows of a consistent high standard, QPAC is one of the best places to start. Queensland’s most iconic performing arts centre sits on the southern banks of the Brisbane River at South Bank, and it’s far more family-friendly than many parents realise.
What’s On at QPAC for Families in 2026?
QPAC regularly programs Brisbane kids shows across the year, with the school holidays being the sweetest spot. For many young audience members, QPAC’s holiday programs can be their very first experience of the magic of live performance, featuring a mix of puppetry, animation, interactive props and on-screen films.
Coming up in April 2026, Toy Story in Concert sees the Queensland Symphony Orchestra perform the full live score while the film screens on stage, and The Wiggles are bringing an intimate live concert experience that will have the whole family singing and dancing along.
For older kids and teens, big musicals are a reliable hit. CATS, Beetlejuice and MJ The Musical are all on the 2026 program, and Shake and Stir’s productions are a consistently brilliant choice for school-aged children. QPAC also runs the much-loved Out of the Box Festival, a dedicated program for children aged 8 and under.
Always check the QPAC website for the latest Brisbane kids shows as new events are added regularly throughout the year.

Getting There with Kids
Public transport is an easy and cheap option with 50 cent fares. South Brisbane train station sits right on Grey Street directly opposite QPAC on the Beenleigh and Ferny Grove lines. Buses run frequently to the Cultural Centre Busway on Melbourne Street, and the CityCat stops at South Bank Parklands which is about a five minute walk away.
If you’re driving, the Performing Arts Carpark (P1) via Stanley Place is your best option. Be mindful that parking fills quickly on busy nights, so pre-paid parking is strongly recommended. You can organise pre-paid parking here.

Food, Facilities and What to Pack
QPAC has three food outlets on site: Storytellers, tomtom, and the Lyrebird restaurant. South Bank also has a huge range of places to eat. Just give yourself plenty of time beforehand so you don’t miss the show. Baby change facilities are available. Theatre bars are now cashless, so card or digital payment only, though the restaurants still accept cash. Similar to the movies, we always recommend a light jacket especially for the kids.
Accessibility
QPAC is one of Brisbane’s most accessible venues. It is an affiliate of the Queensland Government’s Companion Card program, meaning Companion Card holders receive a complimentary second ticket for their chosen companion. All venues have dedicated wheelchair seating, lifts to all foyers, and free Sennheiser Infra-Red hearing assistance available from any cloakroom. Call 136 246 when booking to discuss specific needs.

Top Tips for First Timers
- Foyers open 60 to 90 minutes before showtime, so arriving early is always a good idea.
- Check your ticket carefully as each theatre has its own numbered doors.
- For accessible seating or Companion Card bookings, always call 136 246 rather than booking online.
- Pre-book your parking, especially on weekends and school holiday periods.
- Bring a jacket! The theatres can get chilly.
