O’Gorman Street park at Alexandra Hills is a fantastic local park that takes up the slope on one side of a hill. There is plenty of green space, trees, picnic facilities and a fun and unique playground here – something for everyone to enjoy.
O’Gorman Street Park Playground
The O’Gorman Street Park playground has a lot to offer! The brightly coloured shade sails make this play space instantly inviting and there are plenty of opportunities for kids to climb, explore, spin, ride, swing and balance.
This playground incorporates the hill slope in clever and interesting ways with a large tunnel slide, a cargo net, a wide metal slide and other elements making the most of the geography. Children will enjoy climbing up the slope and sliding down it again over and over again.
At the top of the hill are some stepping logs and a spinning pedal bike as well as nature play elements, and below the slope are musical elements, a merry-go-round, swings, a toddler climbing fort. There’s also a ribbon of sand through this section with a crocodile and stepping stones made from a soft fall style material.
There is also a basketball half court with two hoops here so feel free to pack a ball. The wide concrete paths criss cross the slope of the hill and would suit scooters or bikes. This park is also dotted with garden beds and nature play elements like sandstone blocks and wooden logs.
While it’s not fenced, the playground is set back from the street and is small enough to supervise fairly easily.
Imagination Factor
There are whimsical flowers and musical instruments here which might encourage Brisbane Kids to imagine they’re in a band. The crocodile and stepping stones in the sand might have visitors believing they’re exploring uncharted tropical waters and the small play structure could be a house, a cafe or a hideout.
If your Brisbane Kid loves music you might like to see all the wonderful Brisbane music classes for kids we have on the Brisbane Kids website.
It’s worth taking the time to wander the paths of this park. There are thoughtful elements in garden beds here such as logs and sandstone blocks which encourage Brisbane Kids to explore in and interact with the natural world, and there are carved wooden poles here as well. These elements might have Brisbane Kids pretending they are artists, scientists or explorers.
Accessibility
Some of the playground elements such as the musical elements are on a softball base that joins onto the wide concrete paths, however there are sections of sand and slopes here that might make accessibility challenging for less mobile Brisbane Kids. There is one designated disabled car parking spot.
