The latest production from Stage Schools Australia, Shrek the Musical Jr, is on right now in Brisbane. This is a fantastic musical re-imagining of the original Shrek story filled with humour, singing and dancing and is sure to be a hit with Brisbane Kids of all ages!
What to Expect
Stage school Australia’s production of Shrek Junior brings a full musical theatre experience to suburban Brisbane. There were Shrek themed cut-outs in the foyer to pose in to help keep restless kids entertained before showtime and a simple candy bar for some showtime snacks and drinks. The show itself runs for 70 minutes without an intermission, and is action packed with fantastic performances, opulent costumes and impressive staging that would all be right at home on stage at QPAC. There are a variety of matinee and evening show times in a very comfortable theatre with tiered seating so everyone in the audience has an excellent view.

What we Thought
Our family all loved the show and we forgot we were watching students perform as the acting and vocal performances were top notch – these kids can SING! Our 10 year old was laughing out loud at Donkey’s gags and our 12 year old is inspired to work on her own singing and acting skills. It was really moving to see the cast take their bows and find their friends and family in the audience – after such polished and professional performances it really hit home that these were local Brisbane children who had just put on this spectacular show. We were left wondering if we might have just witnessed the next Hugh Jackman or Cate Blanchett treading the boards. We would happily recommend this show to everyone, from theatre loving Brisbane Kids and their families to those looking for a first theatre experience.
