Sometimes it’s nice to adventure in playgrounds that offer something a little out of the norm, unique features, and play offerings that aren’t often seen elsewhere. This is a growing list of unique Brisbane playgrounds that we recommend when you are seeking some unusual play experiences!

Funderwood Hollow
Escape to underworld of magical creatures with this Funderwood Hollow Park Spielart designed playground located in Underwood Park. Your kids will enjoy the intricate rope bridges, and 5 metres high towers as well as the beams and other balancing features. Surrounded by mature trees and an adjacent nature play area complete with sand and water play, this is part of a much larger park which also contains an additional playground and kids monorail.
Unique play aspect: Fantasy playground designed by children.
Play features: Rope bridge, Climbing nets, slides, swings, pedal-powered monorail track, flying fox, bmx track.

Hercules Street Park
Hollowed out shipping containers atop hills with inbuilt tunnels and mega slides, Hercules Street Park at Hamilton is an impressive looking playground. It feels like a race track almost, like some massive obstacle course designed to be thoroughly explored over and over again. Kids will love the epic tunnel slides and the abundance of climbing nets, hills and rope obstacles throughout the playground.

Bradbury Park Kedron
Enter the Magic Forest through the Magic Seahorse Window before exploring the rest of the woodland. Your kids will love the hollowed out trunks with woodland animals with components of the forest called, The Village, Old Man Owl Bridge and the Trail of Friendly Snails. There is even a guardian throne! The wider playground area at Bradbury Park features a purpose build scooter track with a decent playground.

Hanover Drive Park Alexander Hills
Immediately grabbing the attention of any youngster when they first see the Hanover Drive Park is the huge dome-shaped climbing structure with a cubby on the top and large tunnel slides. This playground also features a parkour section, as well as a dinosaur fossil hidden under the sand.
Unique play aspect: Unusual tunnel slide, fossil dig.
Play features: Large climbing structure, tunnel slide, swings, monkey bars, stepping stones and a seesaw.

Location: Hanover Drive Park is located at 11-21 Hanover Drive.
Ken Fletcher Park
Ken Fetcher playground is based around the look of a massive power station with smokestacks and lots of climbing equipment that looks scarily like a power board. The climbing nets need to be seen to be believed- intricate, complex- truly amazing! Parents of younger kids aren’t left out with a digger, swings and seesaws sure to keep them occupied.

Play features: Net climbing features everywhere, diggers, swings, water and sand play.

Location: Ken Fletcher Park is located on King Arthur Terrace in Tennyson.
Cascade Playground Upper Kedron
This spectacular northside playground is quite the site with its multi storey climbing towers, tunnel slides and and bright orange theme. Unfortunately, despite the size of this playground, there are no toilets at Cascade Playground (yet). This playground is also known as Ellendale adventure playground.
Unique play aspect: The scale of the playground, bright orange theme and numerous slides.
Play features: Tunnel slides, hill slides, seesaws, multi storey towers, swings and a spinner
Facilities: No toilets, BBQs, street parking.
Location: Cascade Park is located at the end of Cascade Place, Upper Kedron
Hidden World Playground Fitzgibbon
Colourful, expansive and perfectly suited to a full day out, Hidden World playground is one of Brisbane northside’s most interesting and popular playgrounds. Elevated boardwalks leading to colourful covered pavilions make this the perfect playground for a good game of tiggy!
Unique play aspect: Colourful almost fairy like theme with a unique background story. We won’t give it away but if you can locate the manholes, this is where the mystery begins.
Play features: Sandbased, swings, slides, spinning bucket, wheelchair carousel, sway fun (inclusive glider)
Facilities: Accessible toilets, BBQ’s, street parking
Location: Hidden World Playground is located on Roghan Road, Fitzgibbon.
Ascot Park Ascot
Designed with toddlers in mind, this is a playground to keep little humans happy for extended periods of time while their parents or carers enjoy a takeaway coffee from a cafe nearby. Ascot Park playground also offers shade and a decent area for your little ones to run around safely.
Unique play aspect: Better explained by the feature image, this playground offers unique cubby house type play structures, low to the ground and accessible for early climbers.
Play features: Forts, slides, tunnels, swings, water pump, roundabout.
Facilities: Fenced, toilets, BBQ’s, cafes nearby
Location: Ascot Park is located on the corner of Lancaster and Kitchener Roads, next to the Ascot C&K.
Stoneleigh Reserve Park
Say goodbye to a traditional playground and hello to Stoneleigh Reserve Park which is a unique country themed playground. This is less about novelty play equipment and more about a country adventure. Articificial animals are peppered throughout the play space along with lawn games like four square and old school fun like fig tree climbing and balancing along stepping stones in the dry creek bed.

Play features: A climbable fig tree, double swing, dry creek bed with stepping stones, games like foursquare, word search and four square.

Location: Stoneleigh Reserve Park is located Stoneleigh Reserve Boulevard, Logan Reserve.
Lobley Park Churchill
The mostly shaded Lobley Park Churchill is centred around an incredibly detailed RAAF cargo plane and air traffic control tower fitted out with all the knobs, levers, maps, wheels, computers and steering equipment you might expect from the real deal.

Play features: Replica plane with pilot controls, swings, double slides.
Location: Lobley Park at Churchill is located at 243a Warwick Rd, Churchill.
Pirate Ship Park Flagstone
Pirate fans rejoice! There is a cool Brisbane playground based totally on a pirate theme and your adventure is waiting! Pirate Ship Park at Flagstone isn’t huge but what it lacks in size it makes up in character!
Unique play aspect: Brisbane’s best pirate themed playground by far.
Play features: 18 metre two-leve pirate ship, large slide, treasure chests, cargo netting, treasure hunt.
Facilities: No toilets, BBQs, limited parking
Location: Flagstone Pirate Ship Park is located on the corner of Wentworth and Sheridan Drive.
Riverdale Park Meadowbrook
Riverdale Park’s extensive dinosaur theme makes it a must visit for little prehistoric enthusiasts. With dinosaurs everywhere (including ones you might have to search a bit to find), kids will love the dinosaur footprints, eggs, baby dinosaurs, life-like sculptures, bones, and giant dinosaurs found within this huge space.

Play features: Large dinosaur sculpture, climbing walls, climbing nets, slide, swings, huge covered climbing frames and tunnel.
