Scamper, climb and slide at the cool Whale Park north of Brisbane, where families can enjoy time together as the kids play and grown ups relax. Lots of climbing opportunities await visitors, with a large whale structure and smaller ship sure to instigate plenty of imaginary play.

Exploring Whale Park in Aura

A themed playground is always fun, and this Sunshine Coast ocean themed playground is no exception.

Featuring a massive whale as it’s centrepiece, complete with a mouth you can climb in and a tail you can climb and slide down, the Whale Park in Aura is sure to entertain the kids and ignite their imaginations.

With a sand and soft fall base, the Whale Park has lots of climbing opportunities in the form of ladders, mounds, embankments and nets. And when you are ready for something different there are a number of swings and slides to utilise.

Don’t forget to bring the bikes and scooters, as a nice concrete path weaves around the park, perfect for little ones mastering their wheels.

Bigger children haven’t been forgotten either with a basketball half-court situated to the side of the playground and a large grassy area which would be ideal for kicking a ball or playing running games.

When it is time to grab a snack or drink, there are covered picnic tables, BBQ’s and all the facilities you require for a great day out, including the all important toilets!

A visit to this playground would tie in nicely with whale watching season, which occurs off Queensland’s coast annually from June to October. It may even spark interest in journeying out on the water (or from the shore) to spot whales.

Imagination Factor at Whale Park

The name alone sparks one’s imagination at this Sunshine Coast park. While the huge whale play structure which is centre stage at this playground can be climbed on, crawled through and relaxed in. Children can imagine what you might find in a whale’s tummy and perhaps discuss how you would escape being swallowed.

If you bring along your sand toys, little ones can dig and play amongst the sand which forms the base for this ocean themed playground.

Accessibility at Whale Park

Whale Park is partially accessible with concrete paths linking the footpath with the playground area. The covered picnic shelter and accessible toilets can be accessed via the path, which extend around the park space, often utilised by scooters and bikes.

The play equipment is partially shaded by shade sails, while the picnic facilities and BBQ’s are sheltered.

The playground has a soft fall and sand base, so access could be difficult for those with mobility issues. The bank of swings, which include a you and me swing (designed to be used by an adult and a baby facing each other) and a nest swing, has soft fall under it, and is connected to the pathway, so could be accessible for most visitors.

Aura Dinosaur Park, Nirimba

Aura is fortunate to have more than 20 parks and playgrounds to entertain families with most of them being themed. We’ve been to many of them and our faves include:

Treehouse Playground – Tucker Street, Bells Creek
Glider Park – Gingera Street, Banya
Wallum Sedge Frog Park – Banks Crescent, Baringa

While some have toilets, many don’t, so make sure your family is toileted before you visit or plan your escape route to the nearest facilities when nature calls.

We found public toilets located at Stockland Aura Vision Centre and Display Village, Tucker Street, Bells Creek, as well as a cute café with a fenced play area for the toddlers.

What We Thought of Whale Park

We enjoyed our time exploring the Whale Park in Aura. Climbing over (and in) the whale rope structure was fun, even the birds were getting in on the action!

With space to kick a ball, shoot some hoops or just play in the sand, all members of the family could easily find something to entertain themselves at this park.

While this park is not massive, there are plenty of other wonderful playgrounds in Aura, so you could easily visit other parks and playgrounds on your day out – ‘playground’ crawl anyone?
